January Savings For Your Downpayment
December is that time of the year where everyone goes all out and spends all of their cash on Christmas. Now that Christmas is over, people are slowing down their spending, needing to pay off credit cards and holding off on oil changes for a while. If you are trying to save a downpayment for a home, the aftermath of holiday spending can make things tougher than at other times of the year. Here are some tips to save money this month and get you closer to your goal!
- Shop at Thrift Stores : Thrift stores get flooded with donations in December because people want to make lastminute tax deductions, and that means a lot of new inventory in January. Head down to your favourite thrift shop for some of the best deals of the year.
- Print this Month’s Coupons: Coupon sites update and reset their coupon list monthly, and with January being a new month, now is a better time than ever to peruse through some of your go-to coupon sites to print off the new ones and get some great savings!
- Eat What’s in Season : Eating seasonally is a great way to keep your grocery bill down, and there are quite a few fruits and vegetables that are in season in the dead of winter: buy broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, grapefruit, kale, leeks, lemons, oranges, parsnips, rutabagas, tangelos, tangerines, and turnips this month!
- Hit the after Christmas Sales: Now that Christmas is over, many store items go on sale, which is a great way to save on next year's gifts and decorations. The savings don't stop there though - look for reduced price candy, baking supplies, gift sets, and basics like soap and cleaners that have been marked down simply because they're in holiday packaging.
- Snatch Up Holiday Returns: Many people return gifts to the store they were from for many reasons, but nonetheless these gifts are either returned to the store floor as is, or maked down and sold as open -box merchandise or shipped to discount stores. That makes January an ideal time to start trawling stores for deals.
- Take Advantage of January Sales: A multitude of sales hit stores even after Christmas, on top of the many items that go on sale that were intended to sell more during the holidays. Make sure to take some time to scan through your favourite online stores to see what kind of savings you can take advantage of during the cold frigid month of January.
